Congratulations on your decision to pursue your education in the United states.

When you attend a college or university in the United States, you are essentially making it your home for four formative years of your life.  Therefore, you must spend the time to understand the type of institution that can give you a good learning experience, a great time for your personal and social life, and put you on a path to a bright future. If the United States has more than 6,000 universities, how can you know which one is the best for you? To select the right university, you have to understand what you are seeking.   You need to know how you learn best.  You also need to know where you feel most comfortable. In the paragraphs below, we suggest the approach that you should use. Ask yourself this:  do I like to be in a small class with all students knowing one another?  Do I like to be in a class where the professor knows each student?  Do I like to be in a class where the professor asks questions of each student? Or, do I want to be in a large class where I can meet a large number of people of different backgrounds?  Do I want to be in a class where the only exam that counts is at the end of the semester?  Do I want to be in a large classroom with a large number of other students? Then, there are the physical characteristics of each university’s location.  Some are located in very small towns with hardly anything to do beyond the university’s borders.  Others are located in or near large cities with a tremendous choice for diversion and entertainment.  Would you like to be in a place with the minimum of distraction?  Or do you want to experience the richness of the urban environment? Asking yourself these questions helps you to choose a university for consideration or eliminate it.  Once you have done these analyses, you have your first list. If you got this far, and have your first list, do contact us and we will help you to get you to the right place.

Living and Studying in the United States

The United States is a country like no other. It has enormous geographic spread, with tiny villages and large metropolitan cities.  It has large cities like New York with more than 8 million people, as well as small villages with fewer than 200 people. It has places that have extreme temperatures – there are hot, humid summers and mild winters in Florida and in California  there are cool, wet winters and dry, warm summers. There is extreme cultural diversity in the large cities, and almost none in smaller states and towns. Studying in the United States is both enriching and challenging. Some universities are intensely competitive:  it is very difficult to be admitted, and when admitted, the process of learning requires competing with each classmate to get the highest grades and the honours.  On the other hand, there are several universities that encourage a collaborative approach among students in a class.  Which style suits you best? A large number of private, prestigious universities offer little or no financial assistance.  If admitted, you will be required to pay a stiff, sticker price in order to pursue education and graduate from there.  To be sure, you will join a prestigious alumni network with all that it can offer. On the other hand, there are several universities, both private and public, that are less expensive, and may even offer financial assistance, especially if you are a meritorious student.  How do you balance the lower sticker price from such a university with its potential?
